Attempted Kidnap: Defence Counsel Cross-Examines Second Prosecution Witness

A defence counsel in a case of attempted kidnap has cross-examined second prosecution witness before Hon. Justice B.G. Diepiri of the Port-Harcourt High Court.

The defence counsel, E.N. Ebete, cross-examined the second prosecution witness, Pastor Mark Ike Igwe, on Thursday in the witness box.

The witness said under cross-examination there was attempt to kidnap his brother in Rumuji in Emohua Local Government.

He however said he did not know how many kidnappers there were and could not say if they were up to 30 saying he did not count.

He said that some of the kidnappers were armed.

He also said that the attempted kidnap took place at night adding he was able to rescue his brother from them.

He said that he had reported the incident to the police in Rumuji and then to the Army saying that soldiers had arrested them and handed them over to police.

He however said they were bailed.

The witness also said they were living in their community before they were arrested.

The witness was not re-examined by state counsel at the end of cross-examination.

The two defendants were in court for the trial.

The presiding judge adjourned to 21 and 24 March for continuation of hearing.
