In order to end all forms of corruption and quackery as well as creating enabling and safe work places, the Ministry of Physical and Urban Development launched its Automation System on Tuesday, November 3, 2020.
During the formal handover ceremony, the Honourable Commissioner, Osima Ginah said the administration of Governor Nyesom Wike is determined to ensure sanity and good service delivery to the citizens.
Hon. Ginah said the initiative was intended to weed off corruption and quackery so as to instill accountability and transparency in the system, noting that over the years there were some issues particularly in running building plans approvals and other activities within the built environment.
He added that since the Ministry has been fully automated, people doing business with the ministry would be at ease, to carry out their transaction wherever they are operating from, stressing that the system will automatically eliminate all forms of quackery.
He expressed confidence that the new innovation would also help the ministry improve on its revenue generation and appealed to clients doing business with the ministry to take advantage of the portal and discharge their obligations, urging them to give his successor, Hon. Austine Ben Chioma all the necessary corporation as he is one of their own.
His words: I know that the professionals in the building sector will be very happy to have one of their own who has come to pilot the affairs of the ministry and I urge you to give him the corporation you gave to me for my 10 months stay in the ministry. It is my pleasure to hand over this project to him.
The Special Adviser to Governor Nyesom Wike on ICT, Mr. Ibifuro Asawo on his part, said the portal was developed to make the transaction easy, stressing there is no need of a middle man going forward to get things done.
He explained that for people to register professionally, they must have their Rivers State tax identification number which serves as one of the requirements in the case of the ministry.
According to him, the online portal would serve the purpose for clients to do their registration, renewal, get information with the state government as regards physical planning and urban development.
Hon. Austine Ben Chioma thanked his predecessor for a job well done, saying that the automation would enable the ministry to serve the public better by providing speed in delivery, stressing that he prefers effectiveness and efficiency than clustering around and promised to put in his wealth of experience to engender proper service delivery and also support efforts by the state government to improve its revenue base.
