Nigerian Army Promises To Step Up Tempo, As Ember Months Begins

The Nigerian Army says it has stepped up the tempo of its operation across the country as the 2019 ember season arrives.

The army operations and media coordinator, Col. Aminu Iliyasu made this known to newsmen Monday saying it is clear that unscrupulous elements such as criminal insurgents in the North-East as well as bandits, cultists, kidnappers, armed robbers and smugglers among others are effectively denied freedom of action as troops continued to tighten the noose on them.

According to him, the Nigerian Army has stepped up the operational activities of operation MESA which is being conducted in most of the 36 states of the federation to checkmate the activities of armed bandits, cattle rustlers, kidnappers and other sundry criminals.

Outlining some of the successes recorded by the Army between 25 to 28 of September, he said the Nigerian Army troops on operation LAFIYA DOLE, Operation MESA and operation SWIFT RESPONSE had recorded remarkable successes. One of such was the vigilant troops of 331 Artillery Regiment deployed at a check point along Yola road, where they arrested a commercial driver named Musa Ibrahim and seven other passengers believed to be illegal immigrants from a neighbouring country. The arrested suspects were believed to have links with ISWAP. The Chief of Army staff Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai pledged to boost the commitment of the Nigerian Army towards providing a safe and conducive environment for all citizens to legitimately pursue their economic endeavours. But he urged the public to kindly oblige the Nigerian Army with any information that would assist them in conducting their operations to rid the society of criminal elements.
